"Black Berets" is a creative group that has existed for over 25 years. The band performs songs about service, love, homeland, and friendship in various musical genres: bard songs, rock, hard rock, military chanson, and rap. All members are combat veterans. The ensemble was formed in 1994 on the basis of a Baltic Fleet Marine Airborne Assault Battalion. The name was suggested by platoon commander Alexander Murzin. In January 1995, the band members took part in combat operations in Grozny during the first Chechen campaign. The band's birthday is considered to be July 2, 1998, the date of its victory in the All-Russian Soldiers' Song Competition "Victoria" with Alexander Murzin's song "Night," about the fighting in Grozny. Between 2000 and 2002, the Black Berets won the Victoria contest twice with the songs "Soldatushki" and "Smoke".
